Chlamydia And Pregnancy – What You Need To Know

What is chlamydia? Chlamydia, also known as “the disease of women”, is an STD (sexually transmitted disease) caused a bacteria called Chlamydia, more commonly known as “the infection”. Chlamydia is quite serious and can even lead to infertility, and even death, in extreme cases. Chlamydia does not necessarily require a medical exam to determine if you have it; however, a medical exam is strongly recommended for anyone who has multiple partners or is having unprotected sex. Chlamydia can be contracted through any form of sexual activity, but is most often transmitted through anal, vaginal, or oral sex.

How do you know if you have chlamydia? Chlamydia can be detected through a urine or blood test, but this is not always the best way to diagnose the disease. Chlamydia symptoms can often go unnoticed, especially among the young population who do not have consistent use of condoms and are not generally tested for sexually active individuals.

Most people do not immediately see any chlamydia symptoms. However, if symptoms are seen, such as a yellow discharge, burning or itching, or even a visible or painful urination, then it is important to consult a doctor as soon as possible. There are several common and serious side effects associated with untreated chlamydia. These include:

How do you treat chlamydia? Chlamydia can be treated with antibiotics. Depending on the state of infection, treatment may involve one or more different antibiotics. If you have multiple sex partners, you should be tested for Gonorrhea and Trichomoniasis, which are both very common sexually transmitted infections. If you are diagnosed with an STD, your doctor may recommend an additional test for gonorrhea and Trichomoniasis, as well as a C-reactive protein test (CRP).

Can you get eye infections from Chlamydia? Chlamydia does not cause eye infections, but if you are pregnant, you are at risk for developing eye infections. Eye infections can develop due to certain strains of Chlamydia. Some of these strains cause just minor complications such as redness and irritation around the eyes, while other strains can cause serious complications including pneumonia, vision loss, and eye infections. Because some of these complications can be life-threatening, you should seek treatment as soon as possible.

Can you get kidney infections from Chlamydia? Sometimes, Chlamydia can cause kidney infections in both children and adults. The most likely time for kidney infections to occur is when one-time dose of antibiotics is not used properly. If you have an infection in your kidneys, you will need to receive an antibiotic in order to clear up the infection. Get your std test kit here.
